Critical Thinking & Decision Making for Pre-Teens

As our children grow into pre-teens stage, they will need to start making many decisions themselves. It is important to apply critical thinking in everyday problems.

MYM has invited Professor Matthew Yupangco to teach a 6-week online course of “Critical Thinking & Decision Making for Pre-Teens”.

This course examines critical thinking and problem solving in our everyday life.

Instructor:

• Professor Matthew Yupangco has a Master degree in Developmental Psychology. He is a Psychology and Mass Communication professor with 6 years of teaching experience. He enjoys teaching theoretical subjects such as critical thinking and decision making focusing on problem solving.

Class Schedule:

• Meet once a week on Friday 8PM
• March 11, 18, 25, Apr 1, 8, 15

Prerequisite:

• Virtual over zoom
  • PC/Laptop with internet access and speaker / microphone / webcam
  • Zoom Client
• Age
  • 5th to 8th graders.

Size of Class:

• 6 students per class

Student Learning Outcomes:

1. Students will understand the meaning of critical thinking.
2. Students will learn the essential aspects of critical thinking.
3. Students will learn methods of good problem solvers.
4. Students will apply critical thinking to a scenario.
5. Students will identify common mistakes in problem solving.
6. Students will identify thinking traps and mental locks. (Toxic Positivity and more)

• Critical Thinking– to include creative thinking, innovation, inquiry, and analysis, evaluation and synthesis of information. Students will be able to analyse, evaluate, or solve problems when given a set of circumstances, data, texts, or art.
• Social Responsibility — to include intercultural competence, knowledge of civic responsibility, and the ability to engage effectively in regional, national, and global communities. Students will demonstrate an understanding of societal and/or civic issues.
